One of the most important areas of work and study for our group is the design of fish passage structures. Our work includes every existing typology (e.g., pool and weir fishways, ramps, or nature-like bypass channels). It is worth noting that fishway hydraulics is one of GEA's fundamental research and development fields, which has allowed us to implement our own calculation methodologies to adapt fishways to the hydrological variability of the Iberian context (Fuentes-Pérez et al. 2014, 2016, 2017). This, among other things, allows us to increase the functionality of fishways over time. Our main lines of work in this area are:
- Design of fishways
- Retrofitting/adaptation of fishways
- Study of the effects of hydrological variability on fishways
- Monitoring and control of execution projects
- Technical assistance during construction
